Bill Wright, the head coach at University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Director of Girls Hockey Operations for the Rifles, has been named ACHA Coach of the Year.
"The UMass head coach led the team to a 15-6-1 record this past season. Wright has been the Head Coach of Minutemen since 2012 amassing a 119-49-12 record. This past season, UMass earned a #5 ranking in Division 1 and earned a spot in the 2020 National Championships."
Wright was born and raised in North Bay Ontario, Canada, where he played AAA youth hockey. Wright then played Junior B for the Waterloo Siskins before he entered the Ontario Hockey League with the North Bay Centennials.
Wright played Canadian Collegiate hockey at York University and University of New Brunswick before he began his professional career in Germany, Italy, as well as the WPHL with Waco, Shreveport and Amarillo.
Wright has coached girls U12 and U14 for the past 4 years. all while being head coach of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Women’s Hockey team for the past 8 seasons -- reaching the national tournament 6 times in 7 years.
